What is Hair Transplantation?

When a surgical procedure is conducted in order to improve baldness in specific part of the body, or to stimulate hair growth, it is known as Hair Transplantation. Hair Follicles are relocated from the "Donor Site' which happens to be an area of dense growth to the 'recipient site', which is the balding portion. Hair Transplantation is usually used to treat Male pattern Baldness.

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)
  • Maximizing hair transplant growth
  • Ensuring the naturalness of hair transplant
  • Ease of surgical planning
  • Minimizing trauma to the scalp
Follicular unit extraction (FUE)
  • FUE is a highly advanced and intricate
  • surgical procedure to restore hair loss.
  • Unlike FUT-STRIP treatment, FUE does not leave a linear scar
  • Like FUT, FUE involves taking healthy hair from a donor site (permanent area) of the scalp

Frequently Asked Questions

There are many hair restoration procedures, namely FUT, FUE, Sapphire, SHI etc. The underlying principle behind all of them is the same. A strip of hair is removed from the back or the sides of the head where the hair is thicker. This hair is then made into strips known as grafts. These grafts are implanted in the recipient site. The hair extracted from the donor regions will grow back over a period of time. The incision made at the donor site is carefully closed, and a very thin line is left there, hidden in the hair.

Depending on the size of the bald area, more than one session is required. This is all well planned, even before the procedure starts. Subsequent sessions are scheduled with a gap between them. Hair Sure surgeons maintain a perfect balance between the number of sessions needed and grafts planted in each session. Every single session might last for 3-4 hours. The patient is given breaks during this period.

The patient is administered local anaesthesia and intravenous sedation. Hence, there is no pain during the procedure. However, patients experience post-operative pain. Therefore, your surgeon will prescribe NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) to reduce post-operative pain.

The transplanted hair falls off, but the hair that will grow will continue to grow naturally for a lifetime. However, make sure that you are regular with your follow-ups and if there are any concerns with new hair growth, discuss freely with your surgeon.
